In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement , this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and an annual salary range of $65,906 to $109,772. This position has an appointment of 2 years from the date of hire.

Your work will have a significant influence on the core technology of the library, and in turn impact the teaching, learning and research activities at the University of Alberta and beyond. You will be working with a fascinating cross-section of stakeholders in supporting the successful completion of the Library Services Platform Implementation Project.

Library Services Platform is a critical, enterprise-level application used in the Library for core library functions including discovery, access, fulfillment and circulation of library resources, and description, cataloguing, inventory and management of library collections. As UAL plans to move from the legacy Integrated Library System (SirsiDynix Symphony) to a Library Services Platform (LSP), the LSP Project Manager will provide coordination and management of the project to select and implement a new LSP system.

Reporting to an Associate University Librarian, the Project Manager will coordinate closely with senior leadership, units and teams, and partnerships within and outside of UAL to facilitate the planning and execution of the project. These activities include defining the project, creating an LSP selection team, identifying key stakeholders, gathering business and technical requirements, establishing selection criteria, and identifying potential solutions that align with UAL’s vision and strategic goals and NEOS Consortium ’s resource-sharing needs. The Project Manager will connect with external vendors and comparable organizations and institutions to collect information on solutions and LSP implementation experiences. The Project Manager will work with the AUL, the LSP selection team, and the Procurement Specialist from Procurement and Contract Management to coordinate the selection process (RFP). Once the selection process is concluded, the Project Manager will work with key stakeholders and technical staff to establish an implementation team and coordinate the planning and execution of LSP implementation and service migration.

Duties

  • Work with senior leadership, internal and external stakeholders and user communities to define the project plan to select a new Library Services Platform.
  • Create and lead an LSP selection team to facilitate major activities around the selection of the LSP system, including identifying stakeholders, defining selection strategies, criteria and processes, facilitating requirement and information-gathering activities, and coordinating the official RFP process with the SMS Procurement Specialist.
  • Create and lead an LSP implementation team to facilitate major activities around the implementation of the new system including platform implementation and configuration, data, integration, workflows and service migration, and validation and acceptance of the implementation.
  • Identify and resolve difficult and complex requirements or process issues within the selection and implementation phases.
  • Active stakeholder management focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships and ensuring expectations are understood and met.
  • Communication to a wide variety of audiences at all levels at UAL, NEOS and beyond. Keep stakeholders informed, involved and onboard throughout the project’s progression.
  • Analyze project progress in meeting critical milestones and timelines within the project; Ensure effective project management tracking resulting in the transparency of delivery progress and awareness and understanding by key stakeholders; When necessary, adapt scope and timelines to ensure that key requirements are met.
  • Produce status reports identifying progress status, and logistical details with associated risks, impacts and issues, and provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business or a related field.
  • Demonstrated project management, business analysis or related experience.
  • Professional Project Management Certification such as PMP is highly desirable.
  • Working experience seeing projects through the full project lifecycle.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication; ability to clarify technical information for non-technical audiences, both verbally and written.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collegially in a team environment and under pressure.
