Offer Description

We are seeking for a doctoral researcher to perform research related to the protection and asset management of offshore grids. The PhD project will address challenges relating to increasing uptake of digital substation technologies, expansion of offshore systems, and moving towards large scale multivendor HVDC grids. This work will work towards challenges of increasing penetration of renewable technologies, one part of solving the pressures of the energy transition on electrical power systems. The PhD project can be shaped in line with your interests, but should include most of all of the following topics:

  • Gaining insights into functional requirements, specifications and analysis methods for the protection and asset management of offshore grids through the development and application of functional models. Development and assessment of relevant industrial case studies appropriate for the field of study.
  • Identifying relationships between system functions and analysing aggregated information to improve testing and health monitoring strategies, using functional models and other methods.
  • Supporting proposed functional modelling methodologies using machine learning algorithms or optimization methods to enhance decision-making.
  • Working towards interoperable multivendor HVDC protection systems through more effective specification, design and implementation driven by functional modelling.
