Laboratory Technician / Scientific Collaborator in Protein Biochemistry

The Structural and Molecular Microbiology research group, affiliated with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB), is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented laboratory technician / scientific collaborator to support protein biochemical research. The candidate will be involved in academic and industrial research projects related to the use of protein nanofibers in biological textile materials.

• Cultivation of bacterial cultures for recombinant protein production
• Purification of proteins
• Characterization of proteins and protein nanofibers through SDS-PAGE, Western blot, electron microscopy, and DLS
• Contribution to the support of practical work related to protein production and purification

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Technology / Master's degree in Bioengineering or Molecular Biology
• You take pride and satisfaction in accurate, neat, and efficient work
• You are a strong team player with effective communication and reporting skills
• Experience in protein biochemistry is a plus, but recent graduates in laboratory technology can receive additional training.

• The position is available immediately and is initially for a minimum period of 2 years, with the possibility of extension for an additional 2 years.

De onderzoeksgroep Structural and Molecular Microbiology verbonden aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel en het Vlaams Instituut Biotechnologie (VIB) zoekt een gedreven en nauwkeurig laborant / wetenschappelijk medewerker voor het ondersteunen van het eiwit biochemisch onderzoek. De kandidaat zal betrokken zijn in academische en industriële onderzoeksprojecten met betrekking tot het gebruik van eiwit nanovezels in biologische textielmaterialen.

• Opgroei van bacteriële culturen voor recombinante eiwitproductie
• Zuiveren van eiwitten
• Karakterisering van eiwitten en eiwit nanovezels via SDS-PAGE, Western blot, elektronenmicroscopie en DLS
• Bijdrage in de ondersteuning van practica mbt. eiwit productie en zuivering

• Je bezit een diploma als BSc laboratorium technologie / MSc Bio-Ir of MSc Moleculaire Biologie
• Je vindt trots en voldoening in nauwkeurig, net en efficiënt werk
• Je werkt goed in team, en bent vlot en correct in communicatie en rapportering
• Je hebt een basiskennis van de Engelse taal
• Ervaring in eiwit biochemisch werk is een plus, maar recent afgestudeerde laboranten kunnen aanvullend opgeleid worden.

• Een voltijdse tewerkstelling.
• Verloning in overeenstemming met kennis en ervaring, aangevuld met extra-legale voordelen. 
• De positie is onmiddellijk beschikbaar en dit voor een minimale periode van 2 jaar, met mogelijkheid tot verlenging met een bijkomende 2 jaar.
