IT Administrator @ the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology

To reinforce our IT team, the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology in Zwijnaarde is looking for an IT administrator. You will be part of the IT team of PSB, which maintains the network backbone, a datacenter with physical and virtual servers, and storage array as well as user services and applications and end-user computers. Together with other team members, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our centralised IT (network) infrastructure.

We are looking for a motivated IT administrator:

• Installing, maintaining, upgrading, and optimising the network infrastructure to ensure a robust and secure environment 
• Proactively contribute to the improvement of the quality of the services and infrastructure

Tasks within the team will be allocated depending on the profile of the successful candidate.

• Bachelor degree in computer science and/or equivalent through demonstrated relevant experience as system- or network administrator
• You have a broad knowledge of IT infrastructure
• Experience in administrating a (complex) network 
• You are motivated to help improve the infrastructure according to best practices and following the latest innovations
• You have experience in using Linux environments (LAMP)
• You have excellent knowledge of at least 3 from the following: Cisco, radius networks, Active Directory, VMWare, scripting/automation, network security, mail relay, firewall
• You are communicative and can work independently in a team context
• Experience with Office365, Azure is an asset
• Experience with scripting and continuous integration is a plus
• You have a good knowledge of written and spoken English
• Knowledge of written and spoken Dutch is an asset

Je zal deel uitmaken van het nu vijf-koppige IT team van PSB, dat het lokale netwerk, een datacenter met fysische en gevirtualiseerde servers, data opslag capaciteit beheert en diensten en toepassingen aanbiedt en ontwikkelt voor onze gebruikers. In samenwerking met het IT team, zal je verantwoordelijk zijn voor het onderhoud en de verdere uitbouw en verbetering van onze gecentraliseerde IT netwerk infrastructuur.

• Installatie, onderhoud, upgraden en optimaliseren van de netwerk infrastructuur om een robuuste en veilige netwerkomgeving te garanderen
• Proactief bijdragen aan de verbetering van de kwaliteit van onze diensten en infrastructuur

Op basis van de kennis en expertise van de succesvolle kandidaat, zullen taken binnen het IT team verdeeld worden.

• Bachelor in computer wetenschappen of equivalent door ervaring als systeem- of netwerk administrator
• Brede kennis van IT infrastructuur
• Ervaring met netwerk administratie
• Gemotiveerd om proactief de infrastructuur te helpen verbeteren op basis van de huidige inzichten
• Ervaring met Linux (LAMP)
• Kennis van minstens 3 van deze technologieën : Cisco, radius netwerken, Active Directory, VMWare, scripting/automatisatie, netwerk beveiliging, mail relay, firewall
• Je communiceert vlot en kan onafhankelijk werken, in onderlinge afspraak met het team
• Ervaring met Office365, Azure is een voordeel
• Communicatie binnen het team kan in het Nederlands, binnen het center is Engels de voertaal
