  • Located on the Camperdown Campus at the Faculty of Science

  • Base Salary $89K p.a. (HOE6) + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The School of Chemistry is currently seeking a Research Officer to provide technical knowledge and expertise to the Chief Investigator, Senior Research Academics and research team to support the research and/or requirements for the work area.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • actively contributing to research activities, designing research protocols, undertaking core aspects of research work, and contributing to analysis and key findings

  • collating and recording research data, drawing insights and analyses, and reporting information from the research undertaken

  • this may also include being responsible for any lab work carried out by students, while working in a laboratory.

About you

  • an Honors Degree in Chemistry or related field

  • experience in a research-intensive environment

  • experience in synthetic organic or peptide chemistry and associated purification and characterization techniques

  • experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, and grant applications

  • a working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation (including Safe Laboratory Practices for roles based in Laboratory)

  • strong numeracy skills together with experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation and managing invoice payments and purchases

  • experience in carrying out literary searches, and preparing literary reviews for further analysis

  • excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills

  • strong problem-solving skills, paired with the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
