  • Opportunity to manage the operations and productions of the Sydney Law Review law journal

  • Base Salary $100,032 - $108,979 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Publishing Manager is responsible for the operational management and production of the Sydney Law Review law journal, including serving as secretary to the Editorial Board. The successful candidate will also work with the School’s Associate Dean Research, Research Manager and Research Support Officer to support Sydney Law School staff and research students to publish and promote their research and to develop the research profile of the school.

Key responsibilities:

  • end-to-end management of the Sydney Law Review production process, including serving as secretary to the Sydney Law Review Editorial Board

  • continuous improvement of the Sydney Law Review publishing strategy and operational plan to ensure that the journal maintains its high quality and continues to enhance the reputation of Sydney Law School

  • work in partnership with the Academic Unit of Study Convenor and Academic Support Officer to facilitate the Sydney Law Review unit of study

  • work collaboratively with Associate Dean Research, Law Research and Law Marketing and Communications colleagues to develop and implement research promotion activities in the Sydney Law School.

About you

  • a tertiary qualification in law (for example, LLB/JD) with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience

  • advanced copy-editing skills and demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, with excellent knowledge of English grammar and spelling

  • advanced legal research skills including knowledge of case and legislation citation conventions and the ability to apply house editorial style accurately

  • excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills, including the ability to exercise a high level of initiative, tact and discretion in dealing with confidential material or matters

  • highly developed project planning, organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise own workload, and to meet publishing deadlines

  • excellent computer skills including the ability to identify appropriate systems and technology to support and improve administrative and publishing processes

  • ability to work both independently and as part of a busy team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
