The Discipline of Business Analytics is a group that combines academics from statistics/econometrics, management science and machine learning. We are engaged in all aspects of analysing data, making forecasts and building models to assist in decision-making under uncertainty. The Discipline has research strengths in the areas of time series analysis, forecasting, quantitative risk management, statistical machine learning, computational Bayesian statistics, and robust optimisation.

Education focused roles are a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. The Professor of Business Analytics (Education Focused) is expected to make significant contributions to developing teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within their School and will be on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop, teach and coordinate units of study (courses) in Business Analytic to culturally diverse cohorts of undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA students

  • develop a strong profile with external stakeholders, particularly in relation to pedagogical activities in the areas of Business Analytic 

  • be involved in multidisciplinary collaborations with internal and external stakeholders

  • contribute to the educational and administrative duties of the Discipline and School

The Professor of Business Analytics (Education Focused) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, they will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.

About you

The position of a Business Analytics Professor with a focus on education plays a pivotal role in guiding the direction of educational leadership, as well as in the strategic planning and goal-setting processes within a university environment. This role covers a wide array of duties, from participating in the creation and implementation of educational policies and initiatives to offering mentorship and advice on teaching strategies, curriculum design, and the professional development of early-career faculty members. Furthermore, it involves a commitment to scholarly work, especially in conducting research that seeks to enhance teaching methods, educational technologies, and pedagogical practices within the realm of Business Analytics engineering. The individual in this role is also tasked with spearheading partnerships and outreach efforts with the business sector to ensure students gain valuable internship opportunities and to enhance the university's influence in various key areas such as statistics and data analysis, statistical learning, risk analytics, time series analysis, machine learning, operations management, operations research, and management science.

Term and remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing position. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
