Online Unit Facilitator - Sessional Academic Pool

Edith Cowan University’s School of Arts and Humanities is currently inviting expressions of interest for their Online Unit Facilitator- Sessional Academic Pool. This role sits within ECU’s Master of Counselling (online accelerated) course and is open to experienced counsellors who hold a minimum AQF Level 9 qualification (Master’s degree) in Counselling or a related field.

THE COURSE
Driven by the widespread availability of digital technology and current global events, counselling treatment is undergoing a fundamental change. In response to trends in the industry, ECU’s Master of Counselling (online accelerated), provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical techniques relevant to professional practice in both face-to-face and online counselling environments.
Throughout the course students explore the three main schools of counselling theory; psychodynamic; behavioural; and humanistic. With an emphasis on working from a person-centred approach and the responsibilities of working ethically within different contexts, the course offers specialist units including; Mental Health Counselling; Trauma Informed Counselling; Ethics in Counselling; Counselling at the Cultural Interface: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and Practice; and Child and Adolescent Counselling. Students are also required to complete a 220hr field placement, engage in supervision, demonstrate self-evaluation, and commit to reflective practice to monitor professional functioning and implement strategies for ongoing personal development.

THE ROLE
ECU is inviting expressions of interest from appropriately qualified and experienced individuals who can guide, support, and inspire the next generation of counselling professionals. With six, eight-week teaching periods running continuously throughout the year, there are multiple opportunities for academic sessionals to join our existing pool of passionate and dedicated academics.
The duties of Online Unit Facilitators are to deliver virtual classrooms, monitor online discussion forums, and mark assessments over 8-week teaching periods. These responsibilities will be delivered under the supervision of Unit Coordinators and full-time academic staff.

THE REQUIREMENTS
Interested applicants must hold a minimum AQF Level 9 qualification (Masters degree), current registration with ACA or PACFA, plus one of the following:

  • Five years relevant teaching, research and/or professional experience in the last ten years, or
  • Completion of at least two-thirds of a relevant level10 (Doctoral) course, plus some relevant teaching and/or professional experience, together totalling five years.
  • Group counselling and/or counselling supervision experience
  • Applicants must also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.

Although not requirements of the role, preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate:


  • Tertiary level teaching experience
