Are you an experienced and strategic thinker looking for an exciting opportunity? Curtin University is seeking an accomplished Executive Officer to provide high-level strategic, policy, and management counsel in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the University's operations and ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including engagement with state and federal government.

In this position, you will (but are not limited to):

  • Support the Chief of Staff in managing the delivery of strategic projects and priorities, as determined by the Vice-Chancellor, engaging and coordinating relevant staff and areas across the University in the achievement of these goals.
  • Provide strategic advice on high-level government developments, priorities and policies relevant to the University.
  • Develop and implement strategic engagement with all levels of government.
  • Coordinate visits and tours to the University by government representatives, including Ministers and key external stakeholders.
  • Prepare briefing papers, speeches and powerpoint presentations for the Vice-Chancellor.
  • Ensure all communications from the Vice-Chancellor are of a consistently high standard and strongly aligned with strategic messages.
  • Undertake high level research, review and analysis, and formulate recommendations for the Vice-Chancellor, on a range of issues and policies, to inform strategic decision making.
  • Coordinate responses to internal and external requests for information.
  • Collaborate and foster effective relationships, networks and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide Executive Officer support to Committees and Working Groups as directed by the Vice-Chancellor.
  • Actively contribute to the development, monitoring and review of University policies, practices and guidelines on matters relevant to the Vice-Chancellor’s remit.
  • Undertake other activities which the incumbent might reasonably be expected to do, and which are consistent with the accountabilities and responsibilities as listed above.
Work Requirements
  • Criminal record check in accordance with the University’s National Police Certificate Assessment procedures.
  • Interstate and/or overseas travel may be required.
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.

Selection criteria:

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and proven management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education training.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of current key issues, trends and relevant legislation, impacting on the higher education sector and the strategic direction and positioning of universities.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship building skills, with previous senior level internal and external stakeholder management experience, particularly with State and Federal government representatives and departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and operationally, and to develop and align operational policies, procedures and practices with strategic goals and imperatives.
  • Demonstrated advocacy skills and proven ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organisation and to work collaboratively across functions, levels and departments to reach shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated planning and project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills to present well formulated views and opinions in diverse forums and develop various high level communication materials.
  • Demonstrated research, critical analysis and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret and assess complex information, and synthesise and prioritise information effectively.
