About You

The Manager, Research Partnerships provides expertise to develop and maintain research partnerships and support researchers and leaders to establish collaborative research projects. The Manager, Research Partnerships manages and coordinates research collaborations that support value creation for research and industry partners and grows the University’s research income. This position is required to maintain existing relationships and develop new relationships, while understanding current market and competitive conditions.

The role supports researchers in the Schools and Colleges and works with central teams to deliver on new partnering opportunities, from one-to-one engagements through to large scale collaborations.  The role also supports the Enabling Impact Platforms (EIPs) and College Centres to support strategic interdisciplinary initiatives across the University.  Strong stakeholder engagement with individuals and groups within the university as well as industry and government partners are crucial to ensuring the University achieves its research and innovation aspirations.

For this role, RMIT is seeking a person with a background in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), including computing and digital technology.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum: 

  • Demonstrated experience working in the area of research partnerships across a range of disciplines and activities. 
  • Substantial commercial acumen and demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and sustaining productive research partnerships. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, provide strategic advice, and work collaboratively with colleagues to solve complex problems and ensure successful outcomes. 
  • Experience in preparing reports, high quality correspondence, business cases and briefings.
  • Experience in recording and reporting work-related activities through client relationship management and other systems.
  • Experience in the successful development and maintenance of corporate networks and relationships. 
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and communication skills with proven ability to convert pipeline opportunities into research projects with impact.
  • Strong decision making and organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex initiatives, set targets, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and form effective working relationships and drive results. 
  • Demonstrated history of behaviour aligned to the RMIT values and professional capability framework.
