About You

We are seeking a Lecturer to enrich our Journalism programs, including the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) and the Graduate Diploma in Journalism. This role is ideal for an academic with a robust multimedia journalism background, particularly in a newsroom setting. The successful candidate will bring a wealth of experience in various journalism formats, such as online, audio-visual, design, and data visualisation to our team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate journalism courses.
  • Engaging in scholarly research activities, contributing to the field of journalism through research and industry partnerships.
  • Enhancing our discipline's research culture with active contributions to journalism studies, especially in adapting journalism practices to new and emerging media platforms.
  • Working collaboratively with the Journalism team, coordinating courses, academic advising, student selection, and other related duties.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • An in-depth knowledge of journalism and the ability to bridge between industry and scholarly research in the field.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and to produce high-quality curriculum materials.
  • Ability to undertake course coordination roles.
  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs in journalism evidenced by publications, development of research initiatives and industry links.
  • Ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
  • Ability to build effective networks with industry as well as the academy and generate funded partnerships with industry and government.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills appropriate for interacting with students, industry, higher degree by research candidates, and staff, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field
