About the opportunity
The University of Sydney is seeking talented individuals who are passionate about technology and innovation. As an Innovation Engineer at our organization, you will play a critical role in defining and delivering cutting-edge technology solutions. Reporting to the Manager of Digital Innovation & Strategy you will work closely with peers in the TechLab team to create new and innovative products and solutions that align with the University strategy. They will ensure that delivery of processes, services and technology is in line with good practice and complies with relevant ICT governance requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an early career software developer, DevOps engineer, or cloud specialist with a passion for technology innovation to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and complex organisation.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- investigate and evaluate new / emerging technologies, innovations and opportunities and, being a technology innovator or maker, alignment with the University and ICT’s strategy
- develop concepts into commercially viable product offerings that fit the current and future product portfolio in accordance with the concept stage-gate development and prioritisation process
- development of Proof of Principle, Proof of Concept and Prototype models; Productionising applications in an enterprise environment
- responsible for continual measurement, review and improvement, ensuring the assigned projects/tasks have clearly defined goals, objectives and relevant measurements that lead to actionable improvements; and responsible for improving the maturity, effectiveness, efficiency and resource effectiveness of the process, addressing any challenges / issues
- accountable for clear documentation, ensuring appropriate knowledge is accessible and clearly understood by the development team as well as relevant stakeholders/clients and collaborators.
About you
- you are not required to know a specific programming language, however expert-level experience with one or more prominent languages such as Java, Python, C#, C/C++, or Ruby is required.
- familiarity with databases such as MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, and Elastic
- experience with React, AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, and Linux OS
- knowledge of Data Science, Web Development, Business Intelligence and Data Operations
- strong understanding of Extreme programming methodology and SDLC
- proven ability to work at management level across dynamic and complex organisations
- strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate and liaise with a range of stakeholders at all levels – both internal and external to an organisation - with a record of successful advocacy and tangible outcomes
