About the opportunity
We are looking to hire a part-time Immigration Consultant role up to 12 months within the University of Sydney’s in-house Immigration and Global Mobility team.
Our goal is to provide seamless immigration and global mobility service delivery to internal stakeholders, current staff, prospective staff, and international visitors to the University.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- provide expert advice in relation to visa regulations and the University’s immigration policies and procedures to facilitate visa processing
- employer nomination processing and handling correspondence between applicants requiring visa sponsorship and external bodies of authority and time to time assist the team with relocation matters
- facilitating visa compliance and risk mitigation strategies of the University and escalating any breaches
- liaising with external agencies in relation to any changes to sponsored candidates and resolving any issues to support the immigration needs of the University, staff member/visitor
- managing applicant queries, providing updates, and identifying when to escalate complex cases to the manager for further consultation
- delivering information sessions on immigration compliance, visa sponsorship and policy adherence to various stakeholders and clients across the organisation.
About you
- expertise across a broad range of Australian visas and immigration issues specifically dealing with employer-sponsored migration and immigration compliance
- ability to work independently and have competency in interpreting and applying complex migration legislation to the University context or larger organisations
- can think ‘outside the box’ on immigration and other related issues
- have exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
- highly developed stakeholder engagement skills for the purpose of liaising with internal and external stakeholders (including government agencies) on complicated immigration and relocation matters
- excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- registered as an OMARA Australian Migration agent or an immigration lawyer, and experience with Migration Manager and LegendCom will be desirable
- self-motivated, proactive, and team player with the willingness to support the Global Mobility Consultant and Manager, Immigration and Global Mobility, where required.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
