About The Centre:
The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre) is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care, commencing in 2023. The Centre is led by UNSW Sydney (Medicine and Health) together with a consortium comprising The New South Wales Council for Intellectual Disability, Down Syndrome Australia, Queenslanders with Disability Network, First Peoples Disability Network (Australia), Centre for Disability Studies, Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service and Mater Misericordiae, University of Melbourne, and Telethon Kids Institute. A further 20 health and disability sector partners and 36 collaborating organisations are also involved. The Centre’s purpose is to improve the health of people with intellectual disability. The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health will be based at UNSW Medicine and Health, UNSW Sydney.
Establishing the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is a vital step in improving the health of people with intellectual disability. The Centre will bring together experts, resources, and research on intellectual disability healthcare.
Why Your Role Matters:
As the Communications Lead, you will work with the Centre staff and Consortium members to develop and manage the Centre’s overarching communications strategy, incorporating internal and digital communications, events, media activity, stakeholder engagement and knowledge management. The Communications Lead manages the Centre’s Digital Communications Officer and works closely with the broader Operations Team, as well as staff in UNSW Medicine and Health, and the Division of External Engagement (DEE).
Who You Are:
- A degree in media, communications or related field, with a depth of subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Knowledge of media and communications policy and regulations.
- Experience in working with individuals with disabilities, including those with intellectual disability, focusing on promoting inclusion and ensuring accessibility.
- Proven project management and communications skills and demonstrated ability to complete tasks within timelines and budget.
- Experience in day-to-day website administration and a sound understanding of the website's role in an organisation's communication strategy.
- Demonstrated experience managing online and in person events.
- Demonstrated experience developing and coordinating social media and digital communications campaigns which identified optimal channels and created effective and relevant online communication.
- Well-developed computer skills including sound knowledge of online content management systems (preferably Adobe Experience Manager), social media management platforms, website and social media analytics tools.
- Excellent writing skills and experience writing media releases, corporate publications, newsletters and website content.
- Excellent knowledge of Australian media and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with the media.
- Proofreading abilities and a strong attention to detail with strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
