About the opportunity

The Sydney Careers team is looking for a Career Development Officer who will facilitate optimum career and employment outcomes for MySydney students during their studies and upon graduation by researching the needs of MySydney scholarship holders and by development and delivery of a range of professional careers services, including Careers Management Skills course modules, workshops and individual services. The incumbent will also engage with employers who are seeking to recruit this cohort.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Careers Centre service delivery

  • marketing responsibilities

  • developmental responsibilities

  • maintaining professional expertise

  • other ad-hoc duties and responsibilities.

About you

  • tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or the equivalent combination of training and experience

  • demonstrated ability in understanding the needs of students from under-represented groups in higher education such as , but not limited to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander People, students who are first in family at University, students from rural and remote areas, students from low socio-economic backgrounds and students with a disability

  • demonstrated excellent skills using information technology, including email, internet, intranet, databases and experience with Microsoft Office suite or Microsoft 365.

  • excellent oral and written communication skills (including presentation skills) that demonstrates respectful communication styles and high attention to detail

  • expert and comprehensive knowledge of the labour market, employers and graduate recruitment practices across a range of industries

  • experience in careers counselling and training and development in careers or related field

  • experience in designing, developing, delivering and evaluating educational programs

  • work history related to graduate employment in a field outside education and/or international work experience.

Sponsorship / work rights for Australia

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
