The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Institute of Human Virology (IHV) has an opening for a Social Worker or Senior Social Worker. The Social Worker will be based at the THRIVE Clinical Program at UMMS Midtown Campus among a robust team of social workers, housing and employment counselors and an insurance specialist. This position will provide clinical case management to patients needing intensive support services including the development of assessments and care plans to help achieve social-emotional-behavioral success. The ideal candidate possesses general knowledge about Healthcare, HIV, Trauma, Harm Reduction, Insurance and Behavioral Health. They will also have clinical social work knowledge and experience that will support multidisciplinary teams.

The Social Worker position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
The Senior Social Worker position is eligible for a $6,000 sign-on bonus.
***Half will be paid following 30 days of satisfactory service at UMB, and half will be paid upon successful completion of probation.  Current UMB employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.***

This position has the option for 20% remote work.

Primary Duties:

If hired as a Social Worker, this position works under the supervision of a Social Worker (LCSW-C) and applies the theories, knowledge, procedures, methods, and/or ethics derived from a formal educational program in social work to restore or enhance social functioning of individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations or communities through assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and advocacy to maximize the individual's well-being.

The Senior Social Worker works under the supervision of a Social Worker (LCSW-C) and apply theories, knowledge, procedures, methods, and/or ethics derived from a formal educational program in social work to restore or enhance social functioning of individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations or communities through assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and advocacy. With the client as a participant, Senior Social Worker uses individualized plans to provide social services and assistance to improve the individual's well-being. May have responsibility for program elements.

  • Provide grant funded services to patients who have challenges in meeting basic needs such as food insecurity, lack of transportation, and pending evictions.
  • Work on a multidisciplinary care team and provide clinical social work services to patients. This includes providing behavioral health interventions and assisting patients with all psychosocial needs relating to their HIV care.
    Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify and construct service plans that best meet the client’s needs and determine best resources available.
  • Develop plans by identifying programs and services available for a variety of client issues dealing with challenges, change, and crisis. May have responsibility for program elements.
  • Maintain case history records and document client(s) progress. May perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports, and other accountability measures.
  • Counsel individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, child care, and/or medical care in accordance with licensure.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to others preparing for use of resources.
  • May supervise other social workers, interns, students, or employees in accordance with licensure.
  • Assist in development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.
  • May review and provide submission of authorized documentation for reimbursement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

  

Social Worker

Education: Master's Degree in Social Work.

Experience: N/A

Certification/Licensure: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Maryland.
 
Senior Social Worker

Education: Master's Degree in Social Work.

Experience: One (1) year post-licensure (LCSW) or (LCSW-C) experience in related area of treatment including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.

Certification/Licensure: Licensed as (LCSW) or (LCSW-C) in the State of Maryland.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of clinical social work. Knowledge about Healthcare, HIV, Trauma, Harm Reduction, Insurance and Behavioral Health. Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.
 
Hiring Ranges: (Commensurate with education and experience)

Social Worker: $63,000 - $70,000

Senior Social Worker: $72,000 - $79,000
