Position Description:

A Research Coordinator V position is available in the Center for Cardiometabolic Sciences/Environmental Health Institute of the Envirome Institute.  This position will provide oversight, maintenance/husbandry, and development of animal colonies that includes setting up mating pairs, changing cages, euthanizing disabled/sick/aged mice, correcting malocclusion, and separating sexes. It also includes maintaining detailed laboratory records of genotyping and lineages using PCR and a trackable online database. Handles, treats, and performs experiments with (e.g., antibiotics, surgery) laboratory animals as directed; trains new employees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows on the proper handling of experimental animals and genotyping techniques of many strains (e.g., null, transgenic, and Cre-Lox inducible models). Will oversee junior staff and direct and schedule their activities; directly communicate conditions of animal colonies and multiple animal housing facilities conditions with regard to changes in practices, costs, and space availability with supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform rodent husbandry that includes setting up mating pairs, changing cages, euthanizing disabled/sick/aged mice, correcting malocclusion, and separating sexes.
  • Perform polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in genotyping of animals (or other techniques as requested).
  • Maintain and update laboratory records of genotyping PCR in an online database
  • Handle, treat and perform experiments in laboratory animals as directed and trained
  • Train new employees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows is above activities
  • Supervise, direct and schedule new junior staff
  • Related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with animal handling.
  • Experience with genotyping of complex animal models (e.g., null, TG, Cre-lox, inducible, etc.).
  • Experience with routine biochemical assays.
  • Experience with laboratory record keeping.

Target Compensation Maximum:

$68,900.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$45,900.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
