This is a customer service position at the J. Willard Marriott Library that helps to provide a welcoming and safe environment for employees and visitors, and preserves and protects the facilities and collections. Library Security & Information is charged with the ongoing responsibility for security, fire prevention and protection, and safety within the Library in coordination and conjunction with the University Department of Public Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, and Facility Operations. In addition to providing a security presence at the entrances and in the Library, employees are expected to enforce all Library and University policies in a professional manner. Employees will be expected to provide information, circulation assistance, and directional help for the Library as well as the University campus.
• Conduct regular building patrols and have a constant presence while in the Library.
Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.
Security & Information has a tremendous amount of responsibility. Employees must be committed to providing outstanding customer service, and be comfortable with enforcing policies. They must demonstrate good human relations, communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving skills. Employees must be confident in responding to any situation, including emergencies, that may arise in the building. They must also have the ability to remain calm in a stressful or crisis situation. Employees are expected to be honest and take full responsibility for their actions. Cashiering experience is also desired.
