Job Summary
The Media Visualization Student Technician will split time between Media Studios and ProtoSpace.
Regarding Media Studios: the part-time staff member will assist with on-going departmental projects. Projects include Video Studio setup (lights, microphones, backdrops, teleprompter), filming, and editing video. The successful candidate will also assist patrons with using the Simple Video Studio and Podcast Booths. The student will also be available to assist with Headshot Wednesdays (photography) as well as recording projects in the Audio Studio.
Regarding ProtoSpace: the successful candidate will provide support for the Data Visualization Wall through technical expertise, creating Visualization Wall assets, and providing instructional training to individuals or groups on request. 
This position will work collaboratively toward the organizational mission alongside Creation & Innovation Services department employees to train University students, staff, and faculty to utilize the Library’s resources and services to accomplish their research and production goals.
For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.
Responsibilities
The applicant selected for this position must be willing to commit to a negotiated, fixed schedule of 15-19 hours per week.
In addition to hours in Media Studios and ProtoSpace, the successful candidate will be expected to spend at least one weekly shift assisting patrons at the ProtoSpace Help Desk. If schedule allows, the student will assist with Headshot Wednesday photography shoots.
This position may require independent interactions with full-time library colleagues, as well as individuals and organizations on campus and in regional arts, architecture, and planning communities. The staff member will serve as an official representative of the University of Utah Marriott Library in these instances, requiring knowledgeable, confident, and professional interactions.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
Preferences
Six months experience with video, lighting, and sound recording equipment, or equivalency, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. The candidate should express an interest and aptitude in data visualization and graphic design and be willing to become familiar with the software and tools utilized in the data visualization field. 
Must be able to carry up to 20 pounds and operate a video camera and microphones at on-location video shoots. 
  • Education/Work Experience: Preference will be given to a student working toward a degree in visual or performing arts, communication, or film & media arts.
  • Advanced experience with multimedia editing software (Adobe CS suite, Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, ProTools, Logic, Audacity, etc.)
  • Experience with data visualization applications (ArcGIS, Tableau, Blender, AutoDesk, etc.)
  • Advanced experience with cinematography, videography and/or photography.
