Job Summary

As part of an upper-tier team, assists in administering Apple systems and the infrastructure supporting them to meet student, staff and teaching needs in a thriving central campus hub. Experience & knowledge with specific Apple and Information Technology preferred qualifications (listed below) are helpful, but training and mentoring will be provided to help applicants develop more advanced skills and knowledge.

This position is considered Category 1, mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the Marriott Library if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.


Assist students, faculty, and staff with Apple related issues. Which includes troubleshooting software and hardware, fixing broken systems and replacing systems. Respond to staff and patrons on issues with software or hardware though the problem ticket system, meetings, instant messaging and e-mail. Manage the software that is placed on the systems by creating overloads or installation packages to be distributed across campus using Jamf Pro, Software Update Server, Patch Server and radmind. Erase, test, image, run Radmind & Jamf Pro and place systems around at different labs & locations that we mange around campus. And assorted projects & tasks, based on knowledge, skill & demand assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted..

Applicant will need the ability to troubleshoot complex problems and work with our group to implement resilient, scalable and durable solutions.

Applicants must also work effectively independently and in team settings.


Continuously demonstrated ability to troubleshoot the root cause of and resolve complex issues individually and through teamwork. Excellent knowledge of software deployment and systems management in a Apple ecosystem. We primarily use Jamf Pro, Software Update Server (SUS), Patch Server & raymond. Experience with scripting or software development. AppleScript, python and more low-level languages (e.g. C, C++) are of particular interest, but any scripting or programming experience is helpful. Experience with technical support, training, presenting and creating documentation tailored to distinct audiences. Knowledge of hardware fundamentals helpful. Knowledge of other operating systems such as Microsoft Windows (Windows 10) and multi-platform environments helpful.
