International Student Services (ISS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior International Student Advisor. ISS, a unit within the Enrollment Management, supports the Provost as well as the University of Washington community.
ISS serves over 8,000 undergraduate, graduate, professional, and exchange international students in F-1 and J-1 status. These students contribute to the institution's academic and research objectives and enhance the rich diversity and global character of the university. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Student Advising and as part of the ISS advising team, the Senior International Student Advisor will advise F and J students on the benefits and restrictions of their immigration status, provide guidance on maintaining visa status, process immigration benefits, maintain and update immigration records through SEVIS, and help students navigate university policy and resources to ensure immigration compliance and successful degree completion.
In addition to general immigration advising, the Senior International Student Advisor will coordinate and oversee F and J employment policies and procedures, best practices, federal immigration updates or changes, and the training and review of processing employment benefits by the advising team. The position will collaborate with academic departments, advisers, and other campus stakeholders on training and employment benefits to ensure institutional consistency and compliance with federal regulations. The Senior Advisor will also be responsible for maintaining and updating training and employment related forms, resource materials, guidelines, and presentation content for students and department advisers.
The ISS advisor advises international students on regulations and University policies related to their non-immigrant visa status to help students comply with federal immigration regulations, policies, and procedures. The advisor also serves as a Designated School Official as approved by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The ISS advisor assists international students maintain legal non-immigrant status while enrolled at the University.
The ISS advisor must maintain and update student records in ISSM, SEVIS, and UW student databases to ensure University compliance with U.S. federal immigration rules, regulations, and policies. The ISS advisor must understand and implement institutional policies and protocols allowing international students at the UW to accomplish their academic goals and ensuring the University is compliant with all federal regulations.
