Performs research, provide general laboratory support and assistance to aid the Principal Investigator, Dr. Neeraj Vij, in conducting research on the identification of mechanisms involved in development of chronic obstructive lung diseases such as COPD-emphysema and Cystic Fibrosis with a goal to identify novel targeted intervention strategies. Our laboratory recently identified novel proteostasis mechanisms involved in pathogenesis of COPD-emphysema. Current project aims to focus on a novel target and evaluate efficacy of a therapeutic drug using pre-clinical cigarette smoke induced COPD-emphysema murine model. The employee is expected to function semi-independently. This position is awarded for a minimum of one year period and may be renewed on an annual basis. The start of this position can begin January 2014.
Candidate must have a recently completed Ph.D. in a life sciences related field.
Expertise in protein processing, immunology and/or lung biology and track record of publications in high impact journals.

The CMU College of Medicine welcomed its inaugural class in the summer of 2013. The innovative medical school curriculum is being designed to prepare students for practice in mid- to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, with particular attention to primary care needs in the region.
