Salary Range: $4,554.00/month to $6,488.00/month PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary will be between $4,554.00/month to $5,521.00/month

DEPARTMENT STATEMENT:

The Office of Academic Programs and Services (APS) is committed to upholding quality as it provides advising services and administrative leadership to implement policies for academic programs for the University's community of faculty, students, and staff. APS provides administrative direction, advocacy, and support services for programs that reach across academic boundaries.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Five Pioneer Success Coaches are being sought. There will be one each for the four colleges, and the fifth to Academic Programs & Services.

Reporting to the Dean of Academic Programs & Services or designee, the Pioneer Success Coach provides highly complex student service professional work to achieve specific undergraduate student academic progress outcomes. Student academic progress outcomes include individual transitioning strategies to CSUEB, analyzing transcript and test scores, monitoring progress to degree and retention, developing individual academic plans that includes major, General Education and university graduation requirements as well as exploring alternate majors, if necessary. Pioneer Success Coaches will track high concern student cohorts such as undergraduates who need academic intervention through progress campaigns by serving as a case manager for high concern identified students. These academic advisors must be able to thoroughly and accurately assess complex student issues that may include academic, social and personal issues affecting their academic progress at CSUEB and independently provide solutions that support students' academic progress to degree. Pioneer Success Coaches partner with the other college academic advisors, Faculty Advising Fellows and other units (such as Student Center for Academic Achievement (SCAA), General Studies and Peer Academic Coaching Program) to facilitate the success of our high concern undergraduate cohort for Cal State East Bay. The Pioneer Success Coaches will use advising technology tools to develop undergraduate "high concern" student success reports, tracking and proactive advising interventions. These advisors will be key members of the Pioneer Care Team, EAB Navigate Leadership team and Advising Council.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Providing academic advising, counseling, analysis, course registration, and student success monitoring for the "high concern" undergraduate student cohorts.
* Advise undergraduates on academic university policies and procedures, including major, General Education, university requirements, alternate majors, course substitutions, petitions and referrals to other campus resources, if necessary
* Identify undergraduate academic problems and develop individual student solutions, especially for those undergraduates having academic difficulty or are on probation
* Provide social and emotional support to students, referring them to campus and community resources, as appropriate
* Resolve and recommend course of action for undergraduates in very difficult academic situations where guidelines do not exist or are not applicable
* Establish and maintain professional relationships with key student support service offices such as Academic Programs & Services, Student Equity & Success, Counseling Services, Veterans Services, Accessibility Services and Student Center for Academic Achievement
* Problem solve with students to improve students' educational strategies such as effective study habits, time management skills, and supportive educational environments
* Provide assistance and recommendations to Academic Programs and Services, colleges, departments and success centers to facilitate timely academic progress for undergraduates
* Participate in the Pioneer Care Team and Advising Council
* Attend university informational and/or planning meetings regarding undergraduate advising and orientation
* Collaborate with College Success Centers on the creation of Student Success Workshops/Town Halls to promote timely progress to degree
* Support Graduation Initiative 2025 Bay Advisor specialist team with student outreach

Other academic activities
* Use PeopleSoft, academic advising software (such as EAB Navigate) and/or student data warehouse information to analyze and to determine trends for undergraduate student success from an academic advising perspective; determine and isolate factors that contribute to poor undergraduate academic performance
* Track specific undergraduate cohorts to analyze and determine academic success trends, including creating and analyzing watch lists and other relevant data to monitor student progress to degree
* Serve as EAB Navigate specialist for assigned college/area to assist with training, troubleshooting, and general questions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master¿s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

* Knowledge of student success effective academic advising practices in higher education.
* Experience in determining courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.
* Excellent oral, written and organizational skills, and ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests from students, faculty, staff and external entities.
* Knowledge of CSUEB academic administrative processes and policies.
* Knowledge of learning assessment processes and requirements. Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with highly diverse faculty and staff.
* Can-do, flexible attitude and ability to respond independently, quickly and accurately, using high level of independent judgment and excellent written skills to provide analysis, reports, survey information, and recommendations on special projects.
* General knowledge of research and interview techniques.
* Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
* Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.
* Project management skills as needed to carry out the responsibilities outlined. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and projects. Excellent time management skills.
* Flexibility and willingness to respond to other duties as assigned.
* Excellent technical skills, such as expertise with a variety of university software systems, such as PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate, as well as database, website and spreadsheet programs.
