ROLE of the POSITION 

The role of Financial Aid Scholarship Counselor will be a great fit for someone who enjoys outreach with students and internal constituents, but also has high attention to detail, strong Microsoft Office knowledge and can spend time working independently. The Scholarship counselor works closely with the UNLV Undergraduate Recruitment team, the UNLV Foundation, the UNLV Graduate College, various UNLV Departments, summer orientation programs, Clark County High Schools, the Cashiering and Student Accounts Office, the Nevada Treasurer's Office and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). Additionally, the Scholarship Counselor works with external foundations and programs in applying funds provided as scholarships via checks and other means to student accounts. 

The Scholarship Counselor may do presentations or meet with students/families. This position also is responsible for timely processing of scholarship awards and ensuring various scholarship programs disburse according to donor specifications and institutional or Board of Regents policies. The duties of this position are highly visible to others on-campus and in the community. 

This position requires the incumbent to learn Federal Title IV regulations, scholarship administration rules related to a plethora of donor memorandums of understanding, the Millennium Scholarship Program, and other state scholarship/grant programs. 

This scholarship counselor will be required to determine, accurately monitor and interpret appropriate data. 

VACCINATION MANDATE POLICY 

Per the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Emergency COVID-19 Employee Vaccination Policy , all NSHE employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved medical or religious waiver request. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

This position requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 1-3 years professional customer service experience, including public speaking, standard and electronic presentations, working in a high-paced environment with attention to detail. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. Candidate must not be in overpayment or default status for any Federal Student Aid program or award. 

Required skills include liaison and committee participation skills; team building and leadership skills; conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as public presentation skills. The successful candidate must possess the ability to recognize problems before they occur and find solutions and demonstrate high computer literacy and versatility.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Preferred skills include knowledge of federal, state and institutional regulations pertaining to student aid programs. 

SALARY RANGE 

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
