The Institute for Computational Science (ICS) at the University of Zurich seeks to attract future applicants for SNSF Starting Grants 2023 .
Your responsibilities
With an SNSF Starting Grant, grantees will lead an independent research project and direct a team of researchers in Switzerland. You should bring an inspiring and exciting project idea!
Your profile
The ICS will only consider applicants who match the eligibility criteria of the SNSF Starting Grants funding scheme :
  • Having a doctorate (PhD) or an equivalent qualification and at least 2 years of research experience after the doctorate / equivalent qualification
  • You submit your application no more than 8 years after the date of your PhD defence.

We are looking for researchers from a broad range of exciting science disciplines, such as Computational Science, Data Science, High Performance Computing, Astrophysics, Cosmology, Planetary Science, and Astrobiology. Furthermore, your academic record should clearly indicate a promising future in research.
What we offer
Successful applicants would acquire the status of Assistant Professor and will be integrated in the Faculty of Science of the University of Zurich. The University of Zurich has a world-class scientific computing infrastructure that includes dedicated access to the tier-0 facilities of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Lugano. We also have our own GPU high-performance cluster to allow for very large-scale machine learning experiments.
ICS members are heavily involved, with leading roles, in large national and international projects (e.g., NCCR PlanetS, Euclid, LISA Consortium, Einstein Telescope, SKAO) and several groups in applied mathematics, statistics, data science and computer-based visualization are co-affiliated with the institute. Additionally, further funding opportunities for smaller scale expenses exist inside UZH, the Faculty of Science, and the ICS. The applicant is also invited to collaborate with PhD students and PostDocs at ICS.
