The GIScience Center at the Department of Geography, University of Zurich invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work on the analysis of ecological infrastructure in Swiss parks using textual data. The project is funded as part of the ValPar project (ValPar) commissioned by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment. You will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary research team across five Swiss universities.
Your responsibilities
You will be a member of the Geocomputation Unit in the GIScience Center. Our research focuses on the computational methods, with a strong emphasis on text analysis, for a wide range of societally relevant geographic problems and a strong focus on the natural environment.
The Geocomputation Unit forms part of the GIScience Centre in the Department of Geography, which hosts research groups working on diverse topics including language and space, geographic information retrieval, digital terrain modelling, uncertainty modelling, movement analysis, digital cartography and mobile systems, geovisual analytics, and spatial cognition.
Your profile
We are looking for highly motivated original thinkers, with a desire to consolidate a research career and with a passion for science.
The appointed candidate will:
  • have completed a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Geographic Information Science,
    Landscape Ecology, Geoinformatics);
  • show evidence of publishing in international conferences and/ or journals;
  • speak and write English fluently;
  • have knowledge of approaches to the evaluation of landscape;
  • be able to demonstrate scripting and analytical skills;
  • have good interpersonal and team skills;
  • ideally have knowledge of one or more Swiss national languages; and
  • value and contribute to diversity and inclusion.
