ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.
The successful candidate will be joining the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by Prof. Dr. Jens Biegert.
Project description: X-rays are a prime analytical tool across a diverse range of areas relevant to modern economy—from fundamental physics and chemistry research, to the pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries. We have developed the first source of isolated attosecond soft X-ray pulses in the water window (280 - 540 eV), the spectral region in which the constituents of life (carbon, nitrogen and oxygen) have strong absorption edges, to resolve the flow of energy inside materials in real time. The project is concerned with the aspects of generation of attosecond x-rays and their application to investigate the interaction between photons, carriers and the lattice in quantum materials and excitonic systems.
For some background information, see: Nature Commun. 7, 11493 (2016), Phys. Rev. X 7, 041030 (2017), Optica 5, 502 (2018), Appl. Phys. Rev. 8, 011408 (2021).
Environment: You will join an international team with a mix of backgrounds ranging from laser science to atomic and molecular physics to chemistry and solid-state physics. Our laboratory and infrastructure are state of the art, and you will be working in a team with a top-notch laser system and attosecond soft x-ray beamline for x-ray spectroscopy. Our group is embedded in several national, European and international networks and collaborations with international top scientists ensures a vibrant and stimulating research environment and prominent exposure.
Position: The Postdoc will join the attosecond XANES team, which consist of a postdoc and three PhD students. We provide an excellent scientific environment and strong international collaborations with ample opportunities for high profile exposure. We will provide a stimulating environment to perform research on the cutting edge of both science and technology.
