COMPETITION TO AWARD A SCHOLARSHIP OF RESEARCH (BI)
FOR MASTER STUDENT
Research Scholarship (BI) in the area of Agronomy – 1 vacancy
Within the scope of the INOVCIRCOLIVE/PRR-C05-i03-I-000208
Innovation and Circularity in the Olive Sector

The competition is open for the attribution of one Research Scholarship (BI) for a master’s student, within the scope of project “INOVCIRCOLIVE/PRR-C05-i03-I-000208 Innovation and Circularity in the Olive Sector”, PRR-C05-i03-I-000208, taking place at the Portalegre Polytechnic University, financed by the operational program of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) financing fund, under the following conditions:

Admission requirements:
a) Be a student enrolled in a Master in the area of Agricultural Sciences or similiar areas, with active enrollment and regularized status, under the terms of the Research Fellowship Statute, approved by the Law no. 40/2004, of 18 August, in its current wording, in the Regulation 950/2019, of December 16, 2019, in its current wording,wich approves the Regulation for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P, and the Regulation for Research Grants of the Portalegre Polytechnoc University, approved by the Dispatch 7148/2020, of 2 July, published in Diário da República n.º 135, 2nd series, of 14 July;
b) Hold a bachelor's degree.
The following are identified as preferential requirements:
a) Degree in Agricultural Sciences;
b) Curricular training in sustainable agricultural production – valorization of agro-industrial waste;
c) Experience in R&D activities, namely in research projects in the area in which the competition is open;
d) Have experience in handling agricultural machinery and implements;
e) Have a teamwork spirit;
f) Have a driving license;
g) Ease of using software tools in a Windows environment;
h) Have Portuguese as their mother tongue or have command of Portuguese at the language proficiency level of proficient (advanced) user C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – Learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR);
i) Sufficient knowledge of written and spoken English.
If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it will have to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas in Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of no. 2, of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 03rd, and any formalities established therein must be completed by the date of the contracting act.
Are eligible candidates who comply with the provisions of paragraph a), no. 1 of article 2 of the Research Scholarship Statute, in its current wording, as well as no. 1 and no. 2 of article 6 and article 9 of the Research Scholarships Regulation of the Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P, and the Regulation for Research Grants of the Portalegre Polytechnic University.
Work plan: The work plan to be developed during the fellowship reflects the scope of the project and consists of the following:
1st phase: Monitoring the composting process of organic agricultural and agro-industrial waste;
2nd phase: Collection of samples during the composting process and soils where research tests can potentially be implemented with the products obtained in the first phase;
3rd phase: Installation of pot tests and field tests with the compounds produced;
4th phase: Monitoring of pot and field tests and periodic collection of samples;
5th phase: Carrying out laboratory analyzes of soils and waste;
6th phase: Treatment and analysis of the results obtained.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Law no. 40/2004 of 18 August, in its current wording, which approves the Research Scholarship Statute; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, in its current wording, which approves the Legal Regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions; Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of August 3rd, which simplifies administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities; Regulation No. 950/2019, of December 16, 2019, in its current wording, which approves the Regulation for Research Scholarships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P; and Order n.º 7148/2020, of 2 July, published in Diário da República n.º 135, 2nd series, of 14 July, approving the Regulation of Research Scholarships of the Portalegre Polytechnic University.
Type and duration of the scholarship: The Research Scholarship (BI) is intended to finance R&D activities to be carried out within the scope of the project. The scholarship will last for 17 months, starting until – at the latest – May of 2024 (including). The scholarship contract will eventually be renewable, for the same period, or until the end of the project, if there is financial availability for this purpose. Under no circumstances may the scholarship exceed the maximum duration of the project and/or applicable legislation.
Amount of monthly maintenance allowance and personal accident insurance: The amount of the Research Scholarship (BI) corresponds to 990,98€ (nine hundred and ninety euros and ninety eight cents), according to the table of values of scholarships awarded by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, stablished in Annex I of Regulation No. 950/2019, 16 of December of 2019, in its current wording, witch approves the Regulation for Research Scholarships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu… ), updated in accordance with paragraphs 2 and 3 of article 18 of that Regulation and the Deliberation n.º 178/2023, of 17 of February, of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Science and Technology, with effects from 1st of January 2024. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer. Scholarship holders will be covered by personal accident insurance.
Selection and Assessment Criteria: The selection method to be used is: Curriculum Assessment (100%).
The selection methods to be used are based on the following parameters:
a) Motivation letter (15%);
b) Scientific component (15%);
i. Publications in the competition area (10%);
ii. Participation in R&D activities (65%);
iii. Participation/organization of scientific events (25%);
c) Professional component (50%);
i. Proven experience in field work (40%);
ii. Professional training (25%);
iii. Professional experience in the competition area (35%);
d) Other merits relevant to the performance of duties (20%).
Candidates who score less than 9.50 in the selection method(s) are considered excluded from the final assessment.
Candidates will be ranked according to their final classification, resulting from the application of the single selection method used.
The Jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship if candidates with the appropriate profile do not apply for the competition.
Application documents: Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending the following documents:

b) Letter of motivation, duly signed by the candidate;
c) Documents proving that the candidate meets the conditions required for the type of scholarship for which he is applying, namely, the certificate of qualifications;
d) Curriculum Vitae of the candidate (a) detailed indicating the date of birth, citizen card number / passport number, tax identification number, tax address and email address, initialed and signed by the candidate;
e) Proof of enrollment in a Master in the area in which the competition is open, with active enrollment and regularized status;
f) Other documentation that the candidate considers relevant for the consideration of the application;
g) Document proving the country of residence, residence permit or other legally equivalent document, valid on the date of commencement of the fellowship, under the terms set out in paragraph b) of No. 1 of article 14, Regulation of 950/2019, of December 16, 2019, in its current wording, in the case of third-party citizens.
The lack of any of the documents required in the application or sending/delivering it to a location other than the one indicated in this notice, may imply its exclusion.
Candidates who incorrectly formalize their application or who do not prove the requirements of this competition are excluded from admission to the competition. The Jury has the power to demand from any
candidate, in case of doubt, the presentation of documents proving their statements.
Deadline for application and form of submission of applications: The deadline for submission of applications will run from the 14th of March of 2024 to 17:00 (Lisbon time) on the 27th of March of 2024.

If there is a need to replace the President of the Jury, it is ensured that he is replaced by the first effective member, becoming the 1st substitute vowel the effective member, in these situations.
Form of publication/notification of results: The draft decision on the evaluation results will be sent to candidates by the email indicated in the application, within 90 working days after the deadline for submission of applications.
If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to comment, if desired, in the context of a prior hearing of interested parties, under the Code of Administrative Procedure, approved by Decree-Law no. 4/2015 of January 7th. At the end of the period established for hearing interested parties and, in the absence of any response from them, the list of candidates will become definitive.
The final results of the evaluation will be published through an ordered list, by final grade obtained, on the website of the IPP and GII website, as well as by email, to all candidates. Candidates may consult the minutes of the deliberations of the jury.
A complaint may be filed against the final decision, within 15 working days, addressed to the president of the jury.
Interested parties may also submit an optional hierarchical appeal, addressed to the President of IPP, within 30 working days after notification of the final decision, in accordance with the provisions of article 12 of the FCT Research Scholarship Regulation and of article 13 of the IPP Research Scholarship Regulation.
Scholarship acceptance: The selected candidate must express in writing, by e-mail, to [email protected] , the intention to accept the scholarship. In case of
non-acceptance, the scholarship will be awarded to the serial candidate in the position immediately following in the final ranking order.
The candidate who accepts the scholarship, to sign the respective scholarship contract must present written proof that he/she is enrolled in the Master in the area in which the competition is open, with active registration and regularized situation.

In order to comply with the legal obligations of financing the project, the Portalegre Polytechnic University is subject to the competition process being made available to the financing entity.
