Job description
PhD Project on Nanotechnologies for Selective Cardiac Delivery of proANP31-67 in acute Myocardial Infarction and Vibrational Spectroscopy for detection of novel biomarkers of early cardiac damage
This study will generate knowledge on the effects of direct cardiac supplementation of a new medication, the cardiac hormone proANP31-67. While the systemic effects of this protein have been previously reported, we will investigate, for the first time, the direct actions on the heart of this hormone in post-MI. The use of nanoparticles will generate new knowledge, as these carriers have not been tested in models of cardiac diseases yet. The use of combined FTIR and Raman for monitoring the therapeutic effects of our investigational drug and new delivery technology is also new in the cardiovascular field. The project will also require the use of advanced cellular imaging techniques (confocal microscopy) and experiments focused on cellular and molecular biology. The project has highly qualified national and international collaborators. The potential candidate must be open to short-term periods abroad to complete certain aspects of the project at the location of our international collaborators.

More about the position
We are currently seeking applicants for a 3-year PhD position focused on treating acute myocardial infarction (MI) through the use of a new medication and innovative delivery system. This position will be based at the Institute for Experimental Medical Research (IEMR) located at Oslo University Hospital / University of Oslo. IEMR is an innovative and dynamic medical research environment that conducts research focused on understanding the molecular basis of cardiac disease and heart failure development. With approximately 70 employees and six research groups, our expertise spans molecular biology, physiology and cardiology. The project will be supervised by Professor Alessandro Cataliotti, MD, PhD, whose research team is involved in international collaborations, and has access to cutting-edge research environments. The objective of the fellowship is to prepare researchers to assume higher academic roles within their respective fields.
The PhD position will last for three years and, depending on the starting date, the contract will end no later than the end of 2026. The funding for this position will be provided through a grant from Nasjonalforeningen for folkehelsen.
The research fellow must take part in the University’s/ Faculty’s/ Department’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
