About the position

A PhD in Business prepares candidates for careers in academic institutions, research-oriented international and national organizations, and the industry. You need to have a keen interest to do research in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship, and to contribute to new knowledge and innovation.. Intended start of the position is August 2024. As a research fellow you will be part of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Division and participate in regular research seminars with international scholars as well as the social life at the Business School.

We are looking for candiddates that will explore topics within one of these two areas:

  • "Innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainability and circular economy". Making more sustainable use of the earth's resources is a significant challenge faced by society. The transition to a circular economy requires innovation at all levels of society. Entrepreneurship and innovation represent essential driving forces for making circular economy an integrated part of all economic activity. There is a need for research on how entrepreneurs and innovative firms can contribute to a more rapid transition to a circular economy. The objective of this PhD position is to explore entrepreneurship and innovation processes for sustainability and circular economy. Potential focus areas could be open innovation, business models, and technology development for a more circular economy and sustainable future.
  • "Entrepreneurship and health". Health is very important to- and affect people's lives. Health restrictions may favor entrepreneurship over regular employment, yet the associated uncertainty and workload can have adverse effects. Conversely, the flexibility and passion inherent in entrepreneurship can positively impact health. Despite this, the role of health as a driver or barrier in entrepreneurship is often overlooked in research. Additionally, entrepreneurship and innovation hold the potential to enhance the healthcare industry, improving patient outcomes and reducing overall healthcare costs. The aim of this PhD position is to investigate the interplay between individual health and entrepreneurship, or explore innovation processes within the healthcare sector.

As a PhD candidate, you will:

  • participate in a structured program with doctoral courses, article writing, and scientific conferences and seminars
  • have the opportunity to go on research stays at foreign universities
  • receive guidance and support from experienced supervisors and researchers
  • be employed for 4 years, and 25% of the time you will perform work tasks at the Business School such as teaching, supervision, planning and conducting seminars and the like

Project sketch:

As an applicant, you must prepare a preliminary sketch for the doctoral project related to one of the two specified topics. This should be a maximum of 5 pages and present possible ideas for the problem, relevance, theoretical and methodological approach. The project sketch will be included in the competence assessment.

You will create a final project description in collaboration with the supervisors during the first two months after employment. This will be the basis for the formal admission to the doctoral program in business economics .

You will have an office in Bodø, Mo or Steinkjer based on your chosen research topic. It is assumed that you are present and available at the office location on a daily basis.
