The Campsteijn lab seeks a highly motivated PhD student candidate to study the molecular mechanisms ensuring nuclear integrity and their role in cell fitness and fate.
Major breakthroughs over the last years have highlighted the importance of nuclear envelope integrity. Despite being the subject of intense studies in a rapidly expanding field, the processes at sites of nuclear envelope ruptures and their long-term consequences on cell fate remain poorly understood.
The central aim of this project is to identify and characterize processes associated with transient lapses in nuclear integrity. The candidate will
- characterize novel regulators of nuclear integrity at mechanistic, spatiotemporal and ultrastructural levels.
- establish genetics and mechanobiology approaches for controlled induction of nuclear ruptures.
- develop novel technologies to monitor and track cells experiencing lapses in nuclear integrity.
- determine short- and long-term effects of nuclear ruptures on nuclear architecture and genome stability, on inflammation, senescence, and cell fitness, and ultimately on cell fate.
To address these questions, the candidate will use a range of advanced molecular cell biology approaches including live-cell and ultrastructural microscopy, genetics and proteo
