About the job

The PhD position is a 3-year 100% temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for a PhD.

The position is related to "The Trondheim Early Secure Study (TESS)”, a longitudinal study of child and adolescent psychosocial development, mental health, and health behaviors. TESS has followed a community sample of approximately one thousand children from the 2003 and 2004 birth cohorts in Trondheim, Norway, conducting thorough assessments every other year since the children were 4 years old. Participants are now 19-20 years old, and the study is still ongoing.

The aim of the PhD project is to identify bio-psycho-social mechanisms explaining why more females than males develop emotional problems (i.e., depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm). Six waves of data from the TESS study will be applied (ages 10-20 years). Symptoms of emotional disorders are assessed by psychiatric interviews and relevant predictors are measured by questionnaires, observations, and tests. Data are collected from participants, their parents, and teachers.

The PhD candidate will be part of the TESS research group, which currently consists of 8 researchers, 4 postdocs, and 9 PhD candidates, in addition to the 5 research assistants responsible for the data collection.
