Description

The grant will be offered annually to students majoring in Chemistry at the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences or to students at Te Kōkī - the New Zealand School of Music, Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.


History

The grant was established from the bequest of Dr Joan Mattingley, who graduated with a PhD in Biological Chemistry in 1977. Her husband Charles Cameron had a lifelong interest in music. The award provides funds specifically for travel and administered by the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation. The grant is for students majoring in Chemistry or in Music for domestic or overseas travel purposes.


Eligibility

The grants are open to students who are currently enrolled full-time at level 300 or postgraduate studies majoring in Chemistry at the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences or, Music at Te Kōkī - the New Zealand School of Music.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time studies at level 300 or postgraduate studies majoring in Chemistry at the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences or, Music at Te Kōkī - the New Zealand School of Music at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation

  • A detailed budget and plan on how you intend to use the funds (international or domestic travel, including registration fees, flights and accommodation) for research purposes

Selection process

The successful recipient will be selected by panels from Te Kōkī - the New Zealand School of Music and from the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences following consultation with senior staff from the relevant disciplines.


Additional information

Recipients will be asked to write a letter of appreciation within a month of being notified, to the family of Joan Mattingley and Charles Cameron.

Recipients are expected to submit receipts for expenditure of the grant.

This scholarship has a closing date of the first day of each month. This deadline remains the same, regardless of whether the first of month falls on a weekend or public holidays.


Regulations and conditions

  • All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full-time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full-time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
  • The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
  • The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
  • Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve a satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
  • Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
  • At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
