Offer Description
Work Plan: Nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas, that can also react with the ozone, destroying it. The only enzyme able to reduce nitrous oxide is the nitrous oxide reductase, an enzyme that catalysis the last step of denitrification. Nitrous oxide reductase is a copper enzyme with a unique tetranuclear copper center as an active center. In this Project we aim at studying the catalytic activity and activation of Wolinella succinogenes nitrous oxide reductase. In addition, we aim at cloning a small cytochrome from this same organism proposed to be its electron donor.
Workplace: The work will be carried out at the LAQV and UCIBIO Research Unit, Department of Chemistry, NOVA School of Science and Technology, FCT-NOVA, under the scientific guidance of Prof. Dr. Sofia Pauleta, and NOVA.id.FCT – Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT will be the contracting Institution.
Fellowship duration: The fellowship will have a duration of 3 months. The fellowship contract may be eventually renewed within the duration of the project.
Application deadline and form of submission: The competition is open from April 8 to April 19, 2024.

Applicants must also send the name and contact details of two people who may be asked for a closed letter of reference. If candidates are not enrolled, at the time of application, in an integrated master's degree, a master's degree, a doctorate or in non-academic degree courses integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, they must submit a declaration of honor in which they confirm that they are eligible to enroll in one of these training offers. Candidates must allow the jury to assess compliance with the condition set out in point 2 through their Curriculum Vitae. How to submit applications: Applications should be sent by email to Sofia Pauleta, [email protected] , indicating "BI-N2OR" in the subject line.
