Offer Description
Would you like to contribute to the optimization of drug treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors in primary and metastatic brain tumors?
You will become part of a multidisciplinary research group, consisting of clinical pharmacologists; hospital pharmacists; various clinicians, including a neurologist, neuro-oncologist, medical oncologist, pulmonologist, neurosurgeon, and radiologist; clinical physicists; analysts; PhD candidates, and students.
You will quantify data from radioactively labeled drugs with Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT), various MRIs, and include measurements of the amount of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the blood and in brain tissue from surgery. You will combine these measurements with patient characteristics in a mechanistic whole-body pharmacokinetic model to better predict the overall amount and its variability of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in the blood, brain, and (brain) tumors.
With pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PKPD) modeling, we will then establish the relationship between exposure and response. The goal is to develop a model-informed precision dosing tool, which will optimize the effectiveness of TKIs (precision medicine) and accelerate the development of non-invasive imaging biomarkers for patients with brain tumors. In addition, you will contribute to pharmacokinetics education at the Vrije Universiteit.
