Your Role

The successful candidates will join a strong and motivated research team led by Prof. Miguel Olivares-Mendez (Space Robotics (SpaceR) research group) in collaboration with FIRIS in order to carry out research to pursue a PhD on the following topic:

  • Localization and mapping for multi-robots in underground mines, caves and lunar lava tubes

The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Carrying out research in the predefined areas
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications
  • Contribute to the development of experiments on real and analogue environments

Your Profile

Qualification: The candidate should possess an MSc degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Robotics engineering. We expect a candidate who is passionate about robotics and looking forward to developing her/his skills in robotics further in challenging terrestrial and space environments.

Experience: The ideal candidate must have experience on:

  • Knowledge of ROS 1, ROS 2 will be an asset
  • Perception for robotics
  • Good programming skills in C++ and Python

In addition, the candidate should have experience in some of the following topics:

  • Multi-robots data exchange
  • Knowledge of SLAM techniques
  • Expertise in Multi-sensor data fusion
  • Mapping techniques

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
