PhD Scholarship in Multiferroic Thin Films and Polar Topologies

Updated: about 2 months ago
Location: Cork, MUNSTER

Description of the offer :

In this exciting new project, the PhD student will develop novel synthetic methodologies to produce well-controlled, conformal multiferroic thin film compositions and novel polar topologies. The student will become competent in thin film synthesis techniques including industrially relevant direct liquid injection chemical vapour deposition (DLI-CVD) and characterisation techniques including X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, piezoresponse force microscopy and magnetic force microscopy. They will contribute to understanding of the structure-property relationships driving formation of topological structures via multi-modal scanning probe microscopy and mapping of atomic displacement vectors of electron microscopy data. Collaboration with internal and external researchers with multi-disciplinary skillsets will be an important part of the project, as well as disseminating results in peer-reviewed publications and at national and international conferences.
