The chair of software and systems engineering (SSE) has an open position (starting as soon as possible) for a PhD student with skills in the area of Using generative AI for code migration projects.

• Position: Scientific employee with a right to a doctorate (wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in (m/w/d) mit Recht auf Promotion)
• Compensation: Fully funded position (TV-L 100 %)
• Working hours: Full time (40 h / week)
• Starting date: As soon as possible
• Type: Fixed-term contract (2 years, with extensions possible up to 6 years total)
• Language: English
• Subject area: Computer Science, Software Engineering
• Research project: Generative AI in software engineering

Requirements and expectations :

• M. Sc. degree in computer science or related field
• English language proficiency
• Interest in security, generative AI
• Very good grades
• Previous experience with scientific methods

Topics and research project:
This position is part of the project “Generative AI for software engineering.” Older code bases sometimes have to be migrated to newer languages or platforms. How can LLMs help with these migrations? How do we make sure the resulting code is equivalent to the original code?

About the chair of software and systems engineering:
Our mission is good software. We currently focus on those disciplines of software engineering where safety and security intersect, both in research and education; in terms of techniques, methods, and tools. Special emphasis is on software testing and quality.
