The Research Training Group (RTG) “Advanced Optimization in a Networked Economy,” funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) and jointly hosted by the Department of Informatics, the Department of Mathematics, and the School of Management, offers several positions for Ph.D. students starting in April 2022.

About us

We are an international, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental group of researchers working together on challenging projects to develop and apply innovative mathematical methods for efficiently allocating and coordinating resources in modern logistics networks, transportation, and mobility systems. Our collective expertise spans algorithmic game theory, approximation algorithms, combinatorial optimization, inventory management, integer programming, machine learning, market and mechanism design, online algorithms, operations management, operations research, process mining, production logistics, robust optimization, scheduling, stochastic modeling, and supply chain management.

We offer

Students with a background in applied mathematics, computer science, industrial engineering, operations management, operations research, or a related field and a strong interest in interdisciplinary work will be offered a comprehensive study, training, and research program. While working in an interdisciplinary environment, students still pursue the doctoral degree in their respective departments (i.e., informatics, mathematics, or management).
