Offer Description
The Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy (Director Prof. Bernd Pichler) at the University Hospital of the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen competes and collaborates on scientific top level in preclinical imaging with international research groups.
The research group of PD Dr. Manfred Kneilling (Immunology) offers a
PhD position (f/m/d) 65%
in the field of “Combined Viro-Immunotherapy and PET/MRI guided monitoring of in vivo immune responses”. The position is initially limited to one year with plans for further extension.
Over the last few decades, cancer research is engaged to understand how tumor cells evade innate and adaptive immune responses and, consequently, to develop novel powerful and individualized treatment approaches to prevent cancer immune escape.
With this project, we aim to elucidate the mechanisms of the immune cells that successfully eradicate tumor cells upon combined Immunotherapy approaches. By developing an innovative state of the art preclinical imaging approach based on combined PET/MR imaging of immune responses, the successful candidate will shed a new light on the tumor microenvironment.
We fully expect that this work will contribute to the establishment of clinically translatable multimodal diagnosis and therapy monitoring imaging techniques.
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates, eager to answer highly relevant biomedical questions and evolve in a multidisciplinary environment with biologists, chemists, physicists, and physicians notably using state of the art imaging techniques. The candidate should ideally possess scientific expertise in immunology, molecular biology/medicine, or biochemistry demonstrated by a relevant Master of Science in the field and a keen interest in preclinical imaging sciences. Hands on experience with preclinical PET, MRI or CT imaging is a plus but not a requirement. Knowledge of tumor immunology and working with small animals, especially in vivo models of diseases, are considered beneficial. As the student will participate in international conferences, fluency in English is a requirement. Previous experience with molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, western blot) is essential.
The successful candidate can grow in a lively and interactive working atmosphere within a well-connected network of PhD students and scientists in the dynamic city of Tübingen.

The University of Tübingen strives to hire more female scientific staff, and therefore emphatically requests women to apply for this position. Interview expenses are not covered. Please note the applicable vaccination regulations. Personnel appointments will be made pursuant to the fundamental stipulations of the legal statutes for universities in Germany.
