The group of Prof. Dr. Konrad Koszinowski at the Institute for Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen welcomes applications for the position of a
PhD position (all genders welcome)
(65 % E13 TV-L, limited contract of 3 years, earliest starting date February 1, 2024) in physical organic chemistry at Göttingen University. In this project, the PhD candidate will focus on understanding the way how solvation influences chemical reactivity. For this purpose, a series of model reactions will be probed in the complete absence of solvent (gas phase), in the presence of individual solvent molecules (micro-solvated systems in the gas phase), and in bulk solution. The experiments will make use of a combination of different methods, including state-of-the-art multi-stage mass-spectrometry and gas-phase chemistry. The obtained results then will be compared to the predictions of quantum chemical calculations.
The PhD studies will be embedded in the Research Training Group BENCh (Benchmark experiments for numerical quantum chemistry), which will offer a stimulating scientific environment at the interface of modern physical, organic, and quantum chemistry. For more information, please consult the Koszinowski group homepage http://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/321433.html and the BENCh website https://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/587836.html .
Your profile:

  • You hold (or are in the process of concluding) a Master's degree in Chemistry.
  • You are proficient in English.
  • You are well experienced in organic/organometallic chemistry and synthesis.
  • You are also well familiar with at least one of the following methods: mass spectrometry, kinetic measurements, or computational chemistry.
  • You are highly motivated and want to learn more about the factors controlling chemical reactivity.
  • You enjoy working in a team.

The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply in fields in which they are underrepresented. The university has committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports their employees in balancing work and family life. The mission of the University is to employ a greater number of severely disabled persons. Applications from severely disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.

Please send your application documents (CV, motivation letter, academic certificates/transcripts thereof, publication list, 2 references, all combined in a single pdf document) to Prof. Konrad Koszinowski ([email protected] ) by December 31, 2023 with the code “BENCh application PhD solvent effects“ in the subject line.
