PhD scholarship in P450-based Biocatalytic Processes for the Pharmaceutical Industry – DTU Chemical Engineering
Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
Job Description
The PROSYS Centre at DTU Chemical Engineering is looking for a PhD candidate.
This project is part of a new collaboration with the University of Queensland (Australia) and the pharmaceutical company, Astra Zeneca (Gothenburg, Sweden). All three groups (DTU, UQ and AZ) have excellent and long-standing expertise in biocatalysis in general, and P450 cytochromes-based chemistry in particular. These enzymes are of particular interest in the pharmaceutical industry, but scale-up remains challenging. This PhD project will have a focus on process scale-up and use the latest enzymes available from the lab in Australia, to design and build a suitable reactor, as well as analyze kinetics and stability of such systems. The collaboration will extend to planned visits to Australia and Sweden as part of the work. The majority of the work will be experimental, but modelling approaches will also be used to complement the experimental work.
The biocatalysis team at DTU Chemical Engineering consists of around 15 scientists and engineers. Expertise is available on kinetics and stability measurements. The team have access to labs equipped with alternative reactors and excellent analytical equipment.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The position includes the following tasks:
- Running biocatalytic reactors, assessed with suitable analytical techniques
- Kinetic evaluation of alternative enzyme systems
- Stability evaluation of alternative enzyme systems
Our expectations of you:
- You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
- A master’s degree in chemical or biochemical engineering or biotechnology or a related discipline is required.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education .
Assessment
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor John Woodley.
