SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark, located in Odense, invites applications for a PhD position, which will be vacant from September 15, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The candidate will be integrated in the section SDU Robotics, which is at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving Universal Robots, Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR) and 120+ other companies. We are specialized in robot solutions involving modelling and control of advanced robot technologies. The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We solve challenging research problems from real applications and implement novel robot solutions together with end users such as Universal Robots, Terma, LEGO, Danfoss, Bang & Olufsen, Novo Nordisk and Odense University Hospital.
The candidate will participate in activities of the SDU Robotics section, specifically the EUROfusion project DEMO on remote maintenance of fusion reactors. The aim of the project is to enable maintenance of the fusion reactor with autonomous robots. The work involves:
- Modelling and control of flexible robots subject to large loads
- Adaptive control
- Simulation of flexible objects
- Implementation of developed research into reliable software applications
The candidate must hold a MSc degree (equivalent to a Danish master's degree) in control, robotics or similar and should have the following qualifications:
- Experience in modelling and control of flexible objects
- Experience with simulation of flexible objects
- Experience in design and development of robotic systems
- Communication skills in English speaking and writing
