The position is in the group of Asoc. Prof Nikos S Hatzakis. The group focuses on structure-function correlations of enzymes by single molecule studies and the role of protein dynamics on biomolecule recognition and regulation.

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a 18 months postdoctoral position from 1st of March 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is 31th of December 2021.

Description of the scientific environment

The position is in the group of Asoc. Prof Nikos S Hatzakis. The group focuses on structure-function correlations of enzymes by single molecule studies and the role of protein dynamics on biomolecule recognition and regulation.

Short Project description

The post-doc will be working on establishing single molecule assays to study the interaction of proteins with model membrane systems, ligands and glycans. They will be using single particle fluorescent microscopy techniques and quantitative image analysis. The post-docs will be interacting tightly either with machine learning groups or/and with synthetic glycochemistry groups. The post may also include performance of other duties.

Formal requirements  

In order to be considered, applicant must have :

  • A PhD degree in either in Biophysics, or Physics, or Nanoscience, or similar field. 
  • A documented experience in
    • single molecule fluorescence microscopy (e.g. TIRF, confocal)
    •  protein functional or/and structural characterization preferably at single molecule level,
    • statistical analysis and computational image analysis.
    • writing and understanding scientific software including Matlab and Python for quantitative image analysis, and treating large datasets and experience with code sharing using git/github
  • Excellent and documented English communication skills

  • The ideal candidate should be motivated have a strong publication record, be able to work independently within an international, cross-disciplinary group and to supervise students.
     
    Skills of additional interest include
  • Previous experience in carbohydrate degrading proteins and sugars .
  • Experience with handling model membrane systems (nanodisc or liposomes).
  • Expertise in biochemistry and protein characterization
  • Previous experience in single molecule fluorescence microscopy building.
  • Documented expertise of working in an international multicultural environment

  • Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

    Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
