Post-doctoral Fellowship in Biophysics/Physical Chemistry: Mapping the membrane dynamics by...

Updated: about 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 05 May 2022

● The position is a part of the grant supported by the Czech Academy of Sciences. The project is devoted to the development of novel graphene-based platforms suitable for the formation of the lipid membranes (SLBs) and their characterization by the techniques of fluorescence microscopy.

● The applicant will mostly work in the Department of Biophysical Chemistry (Martin Hof Lab, http://hof-fluorescence-group.weebly.com/ ) and partly in the department of Low-dimensional Systems, J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry, Prague, Czech Republic.

● Why to join: J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry in Prague is a world-wide respected scientific institution with over two hundred scientists: ranging from promising young researchers to world-renowned experts. The performed basic and applied research mainly focuses on physical-chemical processes taking place in molecules and atoms, which are important for industrial catalysis, energy production and storage, biology as well as health care and the environment.

● The successful applicant will develop and optimize the preparation of the graphene-coated surfaces including their chemical modification, to promote the formation of the supported lipid membranes and to minimize the influence of the surface on the membrane properties. At the second stage of the project, the prepared surfaces will be used to apply the concept of the super-resolution microscopy called graphene induced energy transfer (GIET) to study membrane biophysics in the leaflet-resolved manner.

We offer a full-time position for two and half years with the possibility of extension. The earliest starting date is the 1 June 2022.
