Offer Description

The Charles University Environment Centre is seeking a motivated Junior Researcher to join our research team. This role is focusing on modelling dietary scenarios to meet planetary boundaries from consumption basket perspective. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative strategies to reduce carbon, land, and eutrophication footprints through sustainable food consumption, while ensuring nutritional adequacy for diverse populations.

Responsibilities

The Junior Researcher will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Developing and applying models within the multi-regional input-output (MRIO) framework to assess the environmental impacts of dietary choices.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to integrate nutritional data and environmental footprint indicators.
  • Utilizing programming tools such as Python or Matlab for data analysis and model development.
  • Contributing to the preparation of research publications and presenting findings at relevant conferences.

Project Overview

This position contributes to the project funded by the Czech Science Foundation “Pathways towards environmental sustainability” and the applicant will contribute to the task aimed at aligning food consumption patterns with global planetary boundaries. By modelling various dietary scenarios, the task seeks to identify pathways that minimize environmental impact while promoting healthful eating practices. This work is pivotal in shaping future food policies and consumer behaviors towards a more sustainable and healthy future.
Tools and Software

Candidates are expected to be proficient in the following tools and software:

  • Python and/or Matlab
  • Statistical analysis software
  • Data visualization tools

Duration and Application Details

This project-based position is available immediately and will extend until the end of 2027. Candidates who are ready to start at the earliest will be given preference. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates before the deadline on 5th April 2024.
