Zebrafishlab (Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences) is looking for a full-time (100%) postdoctoral scholarship holder in the field of aquatic ecotoxicology.

Position

  • Your main task will consist of supporting the development of adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) in the context of different ongoing research projects, in the areas of amongst others thyroid hormone system disruption, metabolic disruption and developmental neurotoxicity. This will involve carrying out literature searches (in some cases using systematic approaches), curation and analysis of datasets, weight of evidence assessments of data supporting toxicity pathways, summarizing the data according to formalized AOP development rules and principles, and writing reports and review papers.
  • The amount of personal lab work will be limited. You will however assist in the supervision of PhD students who are working in these areas, which will require training and assisting activities in the lab. Also, if data gaps are identified that are not being addressed in any of the ongoing PhD projects, performing lab work may be required if these data are essential for the AOP development process.
  • You will help writing new project proposals and contribute to attracting external funding.
  • You will participate in the general management and maintenance of the lab, including fish housekeeping duties.

Profile

  • You hold a PhD in Biology (or one of the related life sciences), or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
  • You have not lived, studied or worked in Belgium for more than 24 months during the past 3 years.
  • A high level of experience in the field of aquatic ecotoxicology is essential to qualify for this position, including demonstrable independent research competences and a high-quality publication record in the leading journals in the field.
  • Experience with the development of AOPs, the use of the zebrafish as a research model, and experience with the various endocrine disrupting mechanisms, are important advantages.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You can speak fluently in English. Excellent writing skills in English are required.

What we offer

  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for postdoctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
