Job content

Within the institute for materials research (imo-imomec) of Hasselt University there is a PhD position in the domain of printing and coating of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). The research focuses on the deposition of carbon nanotubes (prepared and functionalised by the partnering research group from UAntwerp) with the use of spincoating and ultrasonic spray coating, and the design, processing and characterisation of OLEDs, with these CNT’s as light emitting layer.

The research will take place in the labs of imo-imomec, in collaboration with imec and the university of Antwerp (research group: nanostructured and organic optical and electronic materials (NANOrOPT)). Besides being involved in the research and the related scientific output, you take an active role in education and activities for outreach of the faculty of Engineering Technology.

Profile
  • You hold a master's degree in Engineering Technology, Physics, Material Sciences, Technology, Chemistry (or equivalent)
  • You are able to work independently and are eager to take initiative and responsibility;
  • You have the necessary qualities to function within a multidisciplinary research group;
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills in English are required;
  • International experience (Erasmus, internship abroad) is an asset;
  • You have a problem-solving attitude and a strong desire to stay up to date with recent developments;
  • Being acquainted with printing and coating technology and having a first publication is an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of organic electronics is required;
  • You have experience with experimental work;
  • Your are able to present research hypothesises, scientific discussions and results both verbally and in writing;
  • The research is conducted in collaboration with (and partly at) Antwerp University. Therefore, an (international) driver's license is an asset.
Offer

The interview will take place in the last week of August 2021. Please submit the following documents: 1. Motivation letter 2. CV 3. A self-written scientific text of 1-2 pages in English, describing the potential of NIR-OLEDs based on CNTs. A pre-selection is first carried out on the basis of these documents, followed by an interview with selected candidates. You are not eligible for further evaluation without a research proposal.
