Job description
Our Medical Cell Biology group is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic PhD student to carry out research on the role of cardiac fibroblasts in stem cell derived heart models of Marfan syndrome. The research is part of an FWO funded research project investigating the link between fibroblasts and cardiomyocytes in different cardiomyopathies.
Your research will contribute to the development of new clinical applications in the personalized treatment of cardiovascular diseases. You will be part of an interdisciplinary research team consisting of physicians, engineers and biomedical researchers.
We offer a PhD scholarship for one year, which will be extended with another three years after positive evaluation, according to the general conditions at Ghent University. The earliest possible starting date is 01.06.2024.

Job profile
- Have a strong interest in cell biology and the human body
- Highly motivated to carry out scientific research
- You should be able to develop and carry out a research project independently.
- You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your master's thesis research
- Knowledge of research methods (or willingness to retrain) in the field of pluripotent stem cells, organoids and in-depth functional analysis of 2D and 3D models.
- Excellent communication and team working skills
- Good writing skills
- Knowledge of Dutch is a plus, not a must
- Willingness to attend international conferences and publish internationally
- Willingness to pursue a doctoral degree (including PhD training)
