The proposed thesis is an integral part of the TCHARBONACTIF project financed by the SPW and the main objective is the synthesis of activated carbon with controlled porosity from wood waste via the development of an innovative process. In fine, the operating mode and the precise experimental conditions of the manufacturing process of activated carbon from wood waste will be developed in collaboration with the ITS Energy company for a later industrial valorization.

Strongly experimental from the synthesis to the multi-technical characterization, the subject of the thesis will mainly concern the development of innovative and green activators for the activation of wood waste, the study of the effect of the activators, the drying and carbonization step on the quality of the obtained activated carbons. The ultimate goal is the production of high quality activated carbon with controlled porosity.

Profile

Applicants must have a Master's degree (or equivalent) in chemical or physical sciences or chemical engineering or in materials science (eligible for a doctorate) at the time of taking up their duties.

The skills and qualities required are the following:

- Demonstrate an interest in research and collaboration with industry;

- be motivated for a collaborative research project in an international environment and have good communication skills

- proficiency in French and English (read, written, spoken).
